Artist Spotlight: Nafisa Anzum

At Lettre, every stamp tells a story. Behind each tiny piece of artwork is an artist bringing their own perspective, inspirations, and creative journey to our community of letter writers.

For this Artist Spotlight, we sat down with Nafisa Anzum; the creator behind Brewing Hues, whose delicate floral illustrations and watercolor-inspired designs have brought a touch of nature and warmth to Lettre’s Post Office. From finding inspiration in everyday moments to preserving the fleeting beauty of flowers through art, she shares the experiences, influences and creative process that shape her work.

Artistic Journey

Can you tell us a bit about your artistic journey? How did you get started as an artist?

I’ve always been fascinated by art ever since I was a child. Experimenting with different mediums was one of my favorite activities growing up. I started off with DIY projects, making things from scratch, creating handmade cards, and customizing paintings for loved ones. Over time, this natural curiosity evolved into a deeper passion for expressing myself through art.

What inspired you to collaborate with Lettre to design stamps?

I’ve always been drawn to things that feel personal and meaningful. Handwritten letters carry a warmth and thoughtfulness that’s quite hard to match in today’s digital age. When I learned about Lettre, I was excited by the idea of contributing my art to an app that cherishes this timeless tradition of letter writing. It felt like the perfect opportunity to bring a bit of my creative touch to something so heartfelt.

How does your personal artistic style influence the stamp designs you create?

My artistic style is deeply influenced by my love for nature and the beauty of the world around us. I enjoy working with watercolors and experimenting with various hues. The stamp designs I created are a reflection of that; featuring florals that reflect my natural painting style. They carry a sense of serenity and connection to nature, which I hope brings a soothing touch to anyone who sees them.

Creative Process

What’s your process for creating a digital stamp? Do you start with a specific concept, or do you let the design evolve organically?

I usually begin with a specific concept in mind, drawing inspiration from nature, emotions, or personal experiences. However, as I work through the design, I allow it to evolve organically. I love the freedom of exploring different details and experimenting with colors to create something that feels just right.

How do you balance creativity and functionality when designing stamps for users?

Creativity is always a priority for me, but I also want the stamp to be functional and practical for users. I aim for designs that are visually appealing yet simple enough to work well in small, digital formats. It’s important to create something that adds beauty and personality but doesn’t overcrowd the space it’s placed in.

Do you have a favorite tool or medium (traditional or digital) that you use when creating stamp designs?

I love working with watercolors as there's something magical about the blending of colors. It also allows me to create soft, layered textures that suit the natural themes I enjoy.

How do you ensure that your stamps resonate with a global audience using the app?

To create designs that resonate globally, I focus on universal themes like nature and beauty. In this case, I chose popular flowers from around the world, as they appeal to a wide variety of tastes and can be easily appreciated by users from different backgrounds and cultures.

Inspiration and Themes

Where do you draw inspiration for your stamp designs? Are there particular cultures, themes, or stories that influence your work?

I draw inspiration from the mundane things in my daily life. Simple moments, small observations, and the beauty found in everyday experiences often spark ideas for my designs. I think the little details of life hold a lot of beauty and meaning that I try to capture in my work.

What message or feeling do you hope users take away when they use your stamps in their letters?

I have a deep love for flowers. As they wither, I try to preserve them in any way I can, and painting them is one of those ways. I hope users feel that same sense of warmth when they use my stamps—like they’re holding onto something beautiful, just as one might try to capture the essence of a flower in art.

Are there any recurring motifs or symbols in your work? If so, why are they significant to you?

Yes, flowers and natural elements are recurring motifs in my work. They hold a special significance for me because they symbolize both beauty and transience. Flowers, in particular, represent moments of growth and change, which I resonate deeply with. They are a reminder to cherish the beauty of life and nature.

Collaboration with Lettre

How has working with Lettre influenced your artistic perspective or process?

Working with Lettre has given me a new appreciation for how art can be integrated into personal communication in such a meaningful way. Designing stamps has made me think more about how my work can exist in multiple functional spaces while enhancing the experience of others.

What excites you most about the idea of digital stamps as a medium for expression?

The idea of digital stamps as a medium for expression is exciting because they combine art with personal connection in a modern, accessible way. It’s incredible how something as small as a stamp can carry such meaning when used in a letter or message. Digital stamps allow for creativity to reach a wider audience, and they give users a unique way to personalize their communication, bringing art into everyday life.

Personal Touch

What’s your favorite piece of feedback you’ve received about your stamps from Lettre users?

One of my favorite pieces of feedback was from a user who mentioned that my stamps have a unique, personal touch because they’re hand-drawn. It was incredibly rewarding to hear that users recognize and appreciate the hand-drawn quality, which highlights the character I aim to bring to each design.

On Creativity and the Future

How do you see digital platforms like Lettre transforming the way artists connect with audiences?

Digital platforms like Lettre are transforming the way artists connect with audiences by making art more accessible and personal. These platforms allow artists to share their work in a way that can reach a wider audience across different corners of the world. It’s a new way for art to be integrated into daily life and for artists to feel connected to those who appreciate their work.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists who want to work on unique projects like this?

I’d suggest aspiring artists focus on building connections and reaching out to opportunities that feel aligned with their passions. Embracing new experiences can lead to exciting opportunities, and sometimes, the best connections happen when you least expect them.

Are there any other creative projects you’re currently working on or dreaming about?

I’m currently working on some customized art projects through my art account, Brewing Hues. I also dream of expanding my creative projects to include more collaborations, possibly exploring new mediums and experimenting with different ways to share my art.

Fun and Insightful

If you could design a stamp that represents your life or personality, what would it look like?

The stamp would be cozy and warm, featuring elements like a soft sunset, a cup of coffee, and some flowers perhaps. It would capture that sense of comfort I find in the simple joys of everyday life.

Art has always been a way of preserving moments, emotions, and memories and through her stamps, Nafisa brings that philosophy to every letter sent on Lettre. Her thoughtful designs remind us that even the smallest details can carry meaning, turning a simple piece of correspondence into something personal and memorable.
